Toughest Dungeon Online: Players Choice Version – by Ken St. Andre
Introduction:
Some time back in the 20th Century, Rick Loomis, founder of Flying Buffalo, Inc. would occasionally run a T &T solo adventure where the players decided what the protagonist would do. That’s the plan for this adventure. I will set the scene and describe the adventure. When choices must be made, they will be made by you players by emailing me what you want our protagonist, a young troll named Uhu (pronounced Yoo Hoo) to do next.
Scene 1: On a blustery winter day three rock trolls came to the entrance to the Caverns of Hael. Two of them were large and mighty, but the third was only half their size. “This is it, Uhu,” says the largest troll. “This is your testing ground, the legendary caverns of Hael. Your task is to enter these caves, survive and grow. There is a way out, but it is not the way in. If you can find the way out, you will be an adult and recognized as such by all other trolls. If you can amass 10,000 pieces of gold, or other treasure equal to that amount, this amulet will teleport you to our cave on the planet of Zimrala.”
“Any questions?” asks the other adult troll.
“Don’t I get any weapons, armor, or food to take into this pit with me?” asks Uhu.
“You are the weapon,” answered the bigger troll. Your skin is as hard as rock, and many weapons will simply bounce off it. You are, after all, a mighty rock troll.”
“As for food,” said the second parent, “you may eat anything you can find and catch. or kill. You can take anything you want from a fallen foe.”
“Ugh!” answers the young troll. “I’ll see you two when I get out. I will make you proud of me.” Without another word, Uhu turns and strides into the black cave opening in the side of the cliff in front of him. (Rock trolls don’t really have gender, but for the sake of convenience we may call Uhu “him” from time to time.)
[Uhu has a strength of 90 and a constitution of 65. His luck is only 6. His intelligence depends upon the decisions you players make for him. Every time you players make the right decision for him, Uhu’s intelligence will increase by 1. His other attributes: dexterity, wizardry, charisma, and speed are all 10s. His combat adds = 75. His skin takes 9 points of combat damage for him as armor. If injured, he will regenerate 7 points of CON per combat turn. If his CON is reduced to negative 10 or less, then Uhu has been destroyed. If something eats him, he is destroyed. Whenever Uhu has gained enough adventure points to possibly increase an attribute, I will give you players a chance to decide whether he increases an attribute or not, and which attribute. I will also give you players either positive or negative trollish victory points (TVP) whenever you make a choice for him in the adventure with the amount dependent upon whether the decision helps or hurts the troll.
To vote on Uhu’s next action, simply send an email to me, Ken St. Andre. The email address is kenstandre@yahoo.com. TVPs will be redeemable for small prizes in the future. The earliest prizes will be just Glory — mention in the Side Notes of this adventure, with a ranking from most points to least. Better surprises will be awarded in the form of discounts on Ruptured Troll Merchandise and/or unique items from the treasure horde of the Trollgod himself. TVP will also be awarded for submitting art illustrating this adventure — if your illustration is, in my judgment, good enough to be used. Mail such illustrations to me as jpgs — no more than one at a time, please. Now, if you’re ready, let’s get this adventure rolling.]
Uhu explores for a short time and soon finds and claims a two room lair deep within the caverns near a vast grotto and an underground stream. He has a lair, but now Uhu can’t seem to find the entrance no matter how much he searches for it. Oh, well! Uhu will sleep and eat in the outer room and keep his treasure in the inner one. Note: While the caverns aren’t entirely lightless, they are extremely dark as far as any mere human eyes are concerned. Goblins, uruks, trolls, ogres, and such beings however can see quite well over short distances. Uhu emerges from behind the huge stalactite that conceals the entrance to his lair and finds himself in a sloping tunnel. Cold water drizzles down the stalactites and drips on the stalagmites, slowly building huge limestone pillars. Side tunnels branch out in all directions from where Uhu stands. The passageways are impossible to navigate with any sense of direction so he chooses one at random and begins to walk.
[This is your first choice, player. Send me a number in the range of 1 to 6. You could roll a D6 for it. This choice will earn you some TVP. if you are with the winning choice, you will get more points. Remember to immediately email your choice to kenstandre@yahoo.com, I won’t answer you, but you will see your TVP score in the Side Notes. Put TD.1 in the subject line of the email. If you have comments, feel free to add them. Hurry! I want to run another section of this adventure at least once a week (if not more!)]

Ken, thank you for the gift of great games.
I hastened to inform the Japanese Trolls.
Our choice send an email to kenstandre@yahoo.com?
Not this comment?
Hi, ryu_minami. Ken might answer this, too, but my understanding is that Ken wants the choices sent by email rather than posted in a comment so that players don’t see what other players have chosen. Part of the game as he has set it up is that players earn TVP based on whether they are in the majority, and seeing what others have said before one makes one’s choice goes against that idea. So, yes, please send your choices to Ken via the provided email address.
Thanks for your reply.
I understand.
I sent an email to Ken immediately!
